New Insurance Supervisor

27 Sep 02

The FSC announces that Mr Christopher Collins will replace Jim Costin as Insurance Supervisor. Mr Collins will take up his position in mid October.

The FSC Commissioner, Martin Fuggle says-

"Mr Collins comes to the FSC from the Cayman Islands where (since 1998) he has been Superintendent of Health Insurance based at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority ('CIMA'). From 1996 to 1998 he was Deputy Head of Insurance Supervision at CIMA. He also has insurance market experience, having run insurance companies in several countries. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has degrees in German and Economics; he is also a good linguist. He will bring both supervisory and valuable insurance market experience to the job here in Gibraltar.

In welcoming Mr Collins, I have to express our thanks for all the work Jim Costin, nobly assisted by Norman Ritchie, has done for the FSC in putting in place the fundamental supervisory system for the insurance sector here in Gibraltar. Insurance‘passporting' was achieved in 1997 during Jim's tenure as Supervisor at the FSC and the positive assessment we received under IMF Review published in March this year is testimony to the solid foundation that has been put in place.

We wish Jim a happy retirement."
